Hotpoint washing machines are one of the most popular brands in the UK because of their reliability.
No mechanical home helper is infallible, however, and if your Hotpoint washer has an LED display and stops working it will show an error code that will alert you to the general nature of the fault.
In most cases you’ll need an engineer to come out and repair your Hotpoint washing machine, so if you live in our service coverage area give Capital Repairs a call and let us know what error code is showing, or in the case of some machines, which LED light is flashing. This will help us advise you and also hasten the diagnosis and repair of the problem.
Common Hotpoint washing machine error codes are as follows:
F1
Flashing Light 4
This indicates a fault (probably a short circuit) with the Hotpoint washing machine’s motor. The machine will not operate. You could try switching it off and removing the plug from the socket, wait a few minutes, then connect it again. If it still won’t work call Capital Repairs on 0108 226 5166 because it is likely you’ll need professional help – there could be a variety of causes.
F2
Flashing Light 3
This indicates a problem with the washing machine motor, which you’ll also see in the machine’s operation because it is likely the drum will not be rotating as it should. This is usually a case of the motor having jammed or a defective tachometer coil. An engineer can repair this and have your washing whirling again quickly.
F3
Flashing Light 3 & 4
This code indicates a temperature sensing fault, which means your Hotpoint washing machine is not heating at all. It’s down to a short in a device called the thermistor, or could mean a broken connection between this and the main control module.
F4
Flashing Light 2
A jammed pressure switch is registered by this code. If the pressure switch is jammed on empty it will signal to the machine that there isn’t any water inside it, even if there is, so the machine will keep filling. This could be caused by a faulty switch itself, or blockages in the hose, wiring issues or failed module connections. An engineer will find the problem and repair it.
F5
Flashing Light 2 & 4
This could be exactly the opposite problem to that indicated by F4 as described above. In this case the pressure switch could be jammed on full. This error code could also indicate a blocked pump. An expert will quickly ascertain what the problem is and fix it.
F6
Flashing Light 2 & 3
This code is a “spare”, generally not assigned to any fault, but if it does pop up it might be associated with an electronic problem in the washing machine, or a fault with the programme selector. It’s best not to ignore it just in case – call Capital Repairs for professional advice.
F7
Flashing Light 2, 3, & 4
This is a tricky problem relating to the heating system in your Hotpoint washing machine. You’ll need a trained technician to check the heating element and wiring, control module connections and the components of the heating system.
F8
Flashing Light 1
Like F7, this error code indicates a problem with the heating system, but it might also involve the pressure switch and is fairly serious. You’ll note that your machine pauses part way through a wash cycle.
F9
Flashing Light 1 & 4
This is a complex error which involves the set-up of your washing machine, requiring replacing the electronics and reprogramming the machine.
F10
Flashing Light 1 & 3
This error relates to the sensor in the pressure switch. If the sensor isn’t working the pressure switch can’t regulate how much water enters or leaves the drum of the washing machine. The entire pressure system will need checking.
F11
Flashing Light 1, 3, & 4
If the water in your washing machine fails to drain out then you’ll see this error code, which indicates a drain pump circuit fault – an issue beyond just a simple obstruction or blockage. You’ll need an expert to sort it out.
F12
Flashing Light 1 & 2
This is an indicator of a broken connection or faulty cable somewhere inside the washing machine, or possibly the failure of an electronic control card.
F13
Flashing Light 1, 2, & 3
This code is seen in a washer dryer if it the dryer overheating. If the problem persists even if the lint filters are clean and there are no blockages to the airflow, this could be caused by a faulty dryer motor or sensor.
F14
Flashing Light 1, 2, & 3
This indicates a problem with the washing machine motor, which you’ll also see in the machine’s operation because it is likely the drum will not be rotating as it should. This is usually a case of the motor having jammed or a defective tachometer coil. An engineer can repair this and have your washing whirling again quickly.
F15
Flashing Light 1, 2, 3, & 4
This indicates a problem with the washing machine motor, which you’ll also see in the machine’s operation because it is likely the drum will not be rotating as it should. This is usually a case of the motor having jammed or a defective tachometer coil. An engineer can repair this and have your washing whirling again quickly.
F16
Flashing Light 5
This error code is only seen on top loading washing machines and shows a fault with the drum lock position sensor.
F17
Flashing Light 5
The door lock error code will alert you if the door to your washing machine hasn’t been closed properly, but it could also indicate a problem with the door lock mechanism, such as a broken handle or faulty connections. If the door won’t open or close, call in the professionals.
F18
Flashing Light 3
If you see this error code it means the control board in your Hotpoint washing machine will probably need to be replaced by a qualified technician.
